    • Tuned Nissan GT-R vs. BMW F90 M5 vs. Porsche 991.2 Turbo S 1/2 mile drag race

An interesting drag race here for context showing just how quick the BMW F90 M5 is. The Nissan GT-R is a bit long in the tooth at this point but it gets a tune pusing it to 631 horsepower. A stock car would be a better reference point but it is what it is.

All of these cars are twin turbo charged and all wheel drive and frankly everything is going in that direction. At least the 911 Turbo S is still somewhat light and the lightest of this group at 35XX pounds.

The M5 has the largest motor at 4.4 liters but it is also moving the most weight at 42XX pounds. Do not put too much stock in the given horsepower ratings as BMW is sandbagging quite a bit. So how does it do?

The Turbo S has the best launch and the M5 is at the back of the pack. The GT-R does very well but the Turbo S just edges it out up top. Clearly the tune on the GT-R is making an appreciable difference.

Data below but not all trap speeds are included because it's Autocar.

      0-60
      911: 2.8
      GT-R: 2.9
      M5: 3.5

      0-100
      911: 6.3
      GT-R: 6.5
      M5: 7.6

      1/4 mile
      911: 10.8
      GT-R: 10.9
      M5: 11.6

      1/2 mile
      911: 16.9 @ 159
      GT-R: 17.1 @ 158
      M5: 18.0 @ 152

So why is the M5 quartering so slow in their test?

Without even looking into it, the M5 is clearly the heaviest and the least sporty of the trio. Also doubt the AWD is anywhere near as good and true as the other two. First time AWD M5, they wont nail it the first time.

I’m not surprised it lost (this is definitely an “apple to oranges” comparison), but I thought it was trapping higher than that in previous tests.

Testing procedure, tarmac, and equipment. Not to mention the weather.

M5 does 2.9 seconds - when launched properly.
And 10.9 in the 1/4 mile.
Problem is idiot media drivers do not know how to use LC properly.
There are plenty of time slips @ 10.9

Certainly a faster example. We've seen some JB4 tuned cars run times like that.

        Approximately 3000 DA - 88F 94% humidity. 3/4 tank of fuel - 94 octane.

11.0’s for every run except for one. 127+ MPH.

        Car is quick

Don't understand how he did that in 3000 DA with a non-Competition car.

        Everything is stock?

Well he's on the wrong forum but I'll put up an article on that pass.

If you have a pic of the car that would help.
