    Nemo Evo

I normally don't post about other people's projects, but this one is so well done...to say I've been obsessed would be an understatement.

I first met Chris Eaton last May at a track event just outside of Brisbane, Australia. He was running one of his other track-toys, but was more than happy to talk about Nemo at length at the end of the day.

To say that Chris is a "car guy" would be an understatement...he just LOVES to drive. In fact, he could often be found driving other people's vehicles while his own car was either lent out to a friend to enjoy, or cooling down from a track session. By the time our Nemo conversation started, Chris was pretty exhausted...but you'd never know it. From the enthusiasm of our discussion, and the sparkle in Chris's eye, you'd never know he'd just spent an entire day out on the track!

There are lots of technical articles that are popping up on this car since it dominated the World Time Attack event last week in Sydney, Australia. I'm not going to re-hash those here, but I will repost some highlights.

    An introduction:

The car as seen last week:

I suspect we're going to hear a lot more about this car over the next year....and I look forward to meeting Chris again and getting a tour of the car in person.

Chris want's to do some events in North America like Global Time attack, Pike's Peak...and I think eventually he'd like to get to Europe and hit the 'Ring.

I think to start with though they want to get the #1 engine figured out. It died weeks before the WTA in spectacular fashion:

What I don't think most people know is that theWTA win was done with the #2 engine setup for only 600hp. The #1 engine is rumoured to make over 900...

More info on the car, the driver, and an in-car ride around the track.

How did it do in comparison to the competition?

Nemo was over 2 seconds faster than the 2nd place car, and over 3 seconds faster than last year's winner.

    Nemo - 1:25.02
    Tilton Interiors - 1:27.18

    2011 Winner - 1:28.85

To put this in drag racing perspective, it would be like a 400rwhp E46M3 showing up to drag race against an HPF Stage 3 car...and running 9s...where the HPF car might run a 10.

Nemo is just on a whole other level than anything else built for Time Attack at the moment.

Some people live long, meaningful lives.

Other people eat shit and die.

I'm not racist, I hate everybody equally; especially fat people.

Nice car. I see that NEMO is putting in a lot of effort with aero and horsepower as it's important. One of the MOST overlooked aspects of performance in motorsports is Braking! I see that they are running AP and I KNOW that you can improve on that system greatly.

That's a very nice and in depth article.

The piping and engine work, really the whole car, is pretty amazing:

I really hope that an in-depth article covers the transmission, diffs, and controllers, as it's an incredibly state of the art drivetrain.

The Shiftec system alone is a work of art, but then they are running some other electronics that just take it to a whole other level.

Absurdly high dollar build. No idea how one can pay for this level of basically re-engineering the car. Just the dry sump system alone is insane.

It's even worse than you thought: The cost of everything in Australia can be easily double market rate versus other places.

Chris has two Porsche GT3 RSs that he regularily takes to the track. These are $380k cars in Australia after taxes, so you can see he is clearly a passionate enthusiast and die hard "car guy".

Another example: I know of a number of cases where Active Autowerk supercharger kits for E46 M3s were imported into Australia costing mid $20ks.....it isn't cheap to be a car guy there.
